Sacred Sanctuary of the Holy Monastery of Prophet Elias
On a hot, windy day, we arrived at the Monastery of Prophet Elias in Thira, Santorini, Greece, following a long and winding road. Despite our anticipation, we were disappointed to find the monastery closed due to the pandemic.
The view from the Holy Monastery of Prophet Elias was nothing short of spectacular. Perched high on a hill, overlooking the island of Santorini and the Aegean Sea, the monastery offered panoramic views that seemed to stretch on forever. The deep blue of the sea contrasted beautifully with the white-washed buildings of the island, creating a scene that was both serene and awe-inspiring.
Undeterred by the closure, we decided to explore what we could. We entered the Holy Chapel of Virgin Mary, taking in the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful religious icons adorning the walls.
After exploring the chapel, we made our way to the monastery’s shop. Here, we found a variety of religious items, including icons, candles, and incense, as well as local food products and spices.
