Nea Kameni Island
Nea Kameni is a small uninhabited island located in the Aegean Sea, near the island of Santorini in Greece. It is part of the Santorini caldera, which was formed by a massive volcanic eruption around 3,600 years ago. Nea Kameni itself is a volcanic island, and it is the youngest of the islands in the caldera, with its formation dating back to the 16th century.
The island is known for its volcanic landscape, with rugged terrain, rocky beaches, and volcanic craters. The most prominent crater on Nea Kameni is the Caldera of Santorini, which is still active and emits sulfur gases. Visitors to the island can hike to the summit of the crater and witness the steam vents and volcanic rocks up close.

It was a humbling experience to be standing on top of such a geological wonder, knowing that beneath my feet lay the forces that shaped this stunning island.
After taking in the views and snapping some photos, we began our descent back to the boat. The hike down was easier, and I had a chance to reflect on the unique experience I had just had. Climbing Nea Kameni was not just a physical adventure, but a journey into the geological history of Santorini and a reminder of the raw power of nature.
