Sierra Madre: Ride High, Feel Free

Riding a horse through the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico is a journey filled with natural beauty, adventure, and unforgettable moments. The guide ensures my comfort and gives me some basic riding instructions before we head out on a trail.

Breathtaking Trails, Unforgettable Rides

The horse, steady and well-trained, becomes my companion on this breathtaking adventure through the rugged Sierra Madre terrain. The horses are well-trained, and the guides are usually knowledgeable locals who understand the terrain and know the best trails.

Feel the Freedom of the Open Mountain Trails

As I climbed into the saddle, the excitement was real. My group and I set off on a winding path, surrounded by lush vegetation and towering mountains. The path got steeper and the ride more exciting as we went along. With every turn, the views of the Sierra Madre mountains got even more amazing.

Before long, we reached a shallow river with water so clear you could see right to the bottom. The stones under the water looked smooth, and now and then, I spotted a fish darting by.

Ride the Heights, Embrace the Views

The Jorullo Bridge, or Puente de Jorullo, is a popular tourist attraction located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, near the town of Puerto Vallarta. It is a suspension bridge known for its breathtaking views and unique experience, drawing visitors seeking adventure and beautiful landscapes.

Key Features of Jorullo Bridge:

  1. Suspension Bridge: The Jorullo Bridge is a long suspension bridge, extending around 470 meters (about 1,542 feet) across the Cuale River canyon. It is one of the longest suspension bridges for vehicles and pedestrians in the world.
  2. Height and Views: Suspended at approximately 150 meters (492 feet) above the ground, the bridge offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Sierra Madre Mountains, the jungle, and the Cuale River. Visitors can enjoy the lush greenery and the thrilling sensation of walking over such a high and narrow structure.
  3. Activities: The bridge is accessible as part of adventure tours that include ATV rides, off-road adventures, and eco-tours through the Sierra Madre Mountains. These tours often provide opportunities to explore the rich biodiversity and natural beauty of the area, as well as learn about local wildlife.

Adventure Awaits Beyond Every Bend

Our horseback riding adventure came to a stop not too far from Jorullo Bridge, giving us a perfect moment to rest and take in the surroundings. We all dismounted and stretched, feeling that good kind of tired from riding. As we relaxed, we spotted other groups zooming by on their ATVs, kicking up little clouds of dust.  It was fun to watch them speed around, though I was perfectly happy with my choice of a more peaceful, scenic horseback ride.

After our break, it was time to start heading back to our original meeting spot. This time, we walked, crossing over the historic Jorullo Bridge on foot. It was an amazing feeling to walk on the structure, looking out at the beautiful landscape.
